Building the world we want

Riffing off the WWW for World Wide Web, the World Wide Web Foundation named its campaign promoting discussion of Internet rights ‘Web We Want’.

We like to say that we research, develop, fund and support Tech We Trust for the World We Want, and we do so in response to an observation by Marshall McLuhan: “We shape our tools, and thereafter our tools shape us.”

In other words, unless we set out now to shape our 21st Century technologies based on the World We Want, we will have to live with the World We Get, and as more than a few visionary 20th Century novelists anticipated, this isn’t necessarily going to be an outcome most people might embrace with hindsight. May more of us have foresight.

...and come see how we’re making it happen!
